Ultra orthodox Jews seen with a chicken in the Jewish orthodox neighborhood in Brooklyn prior to the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. The chicken is used as part of the Kaparot ritual in which it is believed that one transfers one's sins from the past year into the chicken. The ritual is performed before the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish year. The chicken is later slaughtered and given to charity. September 23, 2012.
